PC prices likely to be going up fairly soon...

Just for information, I was talking today to a sales-person from a well-known US computer company with four letters in its name, about buying a server and she pointed out that prices of their equipment and that of several other PC manufacturers is likely to increase very soon because of the reduction in value of the pound against the euro, the dollar, the yen, and so forth.*

There's not too much you can do about it, unless you were delaying a purchase in the (faint!) hope that prices would go down, other than to see it as Yet Another Example of the recession.

* To those who would say "Sales-persons would that, wouldn't they!", I would respond that she knew we wouldn't be able to buy this server until the end of March...

Once the sales are finished I would expect the price of many imported goods to rise short term. However on the flip side, pc prices usually go down and the components get better a la Moore's Law :)

Yes they would. But anyway most products are more liquid than this.

PC components have already gone up. I bought a Quad core Q9550 CPU in November for £188. Price is now higher.

So it's too late. Prices have gone up already. Buy later if you don't need it now.

have to agree with meester, last oct paid under a £100 for a q6600 cpu, look at em now and intel have supposedly cut prices.
Its not just hardware, same time as the q6600 purchase bought a copy of vista basic for £51.50 now its avg £65, these are also after the vat cuts, pound is in the crapper, time to get creative on the home market.
