The French are Revolting !

I've just spent about half an hour trying to find out if any general protests against the government have been organised.... can't find a single thing.
I'm sick to death with being bullied by the government/police state/nanny state. I'm fed up being taxed, just to line fat cat pockets and corrupt politicians who fancy a new John Lewis kitchen. I'm fed up with unjust benefits system, poor NHS care, pensioners living in poverty due to depleted pension pots. I'm fed up with extortionate gas and electricity bills and the banks getting away with fraud!
I have done all the things I should have done in life, I studied hard at school and got good grades. I went to a good university, got into debt (no grant for me Mr Politician.. not as lucky as you were). I gained a good degree; got a well paying job... the government takes a nice slice of this every month. Yet I still struggle with my finances. I rent an average 1 bed flat. There is no way I can afford a house (even in the good times). Out of my reach.
I feel as though my generation have been robbed of the simplest things like job security, being able to buy your home, a steady economy... all due to greed of the people who should have been looking after us.
The protests may not work, but screaming about how dissatisfied I am with the way things are going may- just may- make me feel a damn site better. And at least no one can call me apathetic. May be if we all took a stand, our voices might be heard. I'd only want to protest peacefully, but you know some bozo would ruin it. But its a chance I'm prepared to take.
Apologies for the rant!!! I'm done for now!!!0 -
I admire the french for standing up for what they believe in. The are far more involved in social rights than we are, obviously they are not perfect and i dont agree with everything they do or say but if only we could take a leaf out of their book when it came to standing up to our government, social injustice is rife and it is the workers who will suffer most from this reccession/depression. In a country that could easily afford to support its workforce/sick/homeless/hungry/cold they choose to prop up financial institutions with taxpayer money - our money. I'm disgusted and the sooner the people of this country get their head out of the sand the better. I'll quite happily march/protest and revolt.
Good on the French!
Do you also admire the french too for blowing up and sinking that Greenpeace ship so they couldn't interfere with their nuclear exposion experiments too? Which I believe also killed some lives, did they protest about that too?0 -

There was one against M&S importing Israeli goods in Newcastle on Thursday. We were on our way to a lecture on Human Rights (ironically) so could only dawdle for a few mins. At least we showed our support.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -

No, that's why in my original post i quite clearly stated that i dont agree with everything the french do or say.
I am a supporter of greenpeace and think that in that case the guilty parties were in the wrong, however in this case i think that the people responsible for mobilizing the marches are right.
Please read my post more carefully before attacking it.0 -

I applaud you for supporting greenpeace as I do, but I thanked the poster fro mentioning what the french did as it should never be forgotton. He wasn't attacking your post, he was merely mentioning something not directly related to your post.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

I missed the news at the time (1985 I think) as I was working in Germany, I couldn't believe it when a guy from New Zealand told me about it a few years later, at first I thought he was joking, it seemed so unlikely.0 -

I sympathise to some extent. A lot has been heard about grey power but most people in my generation (50 and older) had a good deal from the state when younger (still had grants and a humane benefits system then) and can be reasonably sure of a decent pension and able to retire at 65 or even earlier. The young have to pay for their own education, pay for OUR pensions and save up to pay for their own, which are likely to be payable at 68 or even later, not to mention having to sell their souls to get on the housing ladder.
On the other hand - it's all very well kicking out the government - but they'd just be replaced by another set of suits. What would YOU do? And as you're hinting at, a lot of what has gone wrong has been to do with private institutions like the banks as much as the government. Not to mention the housing market and the greed shown by so many house sellers and buyers who seem to see a house as an "investment" not a place to live in.0 -
