Very slow fill washing machine

I inherited my AEG washing machine a year ago with our new house. I reckon it's about 12 years old.
I had it plumbed in the garage and have noticed over the last few weeks it takes ages before you hear the water flowing into the machine. It was fine up to then. It washes well and I hope has a bit of life left in it.
Could someone be able to tell me if this is likely to be a problem with the washing machine itself or the water supply.
We are also experiencing trouble with our power shower which is possibly an air lock. We recently replaced our kitchen, bathrooms, a loo, and plumbed in a fridge freezer as well as moving the washing machine out to the garage so I suppose the plumbing/pipework has been changed about a bit over the last few months.

Take the top off the machine ( usually 4 or 5 screws at the rear ) this will give you access to the inlet connections ( where the blue and red pipes fit ) these frequently contain filters especially in older machines. Check that these are not blocked and also try the valves that feed the connection hoses are not partially blocked.

Before you attempt this, make sure you've removed the plug from the electric socket. Better to be safe than sorry.;)10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -
Don't worry. Plug will be removed and will be wearing wellie boots and rubber gloves! Am the world's biggest coward especially when I don't understand things - as in electricity! In fact I have a plumber coming to look at replacing a few radiators and valves and I will probably ask him to have a look.0
