You have no legal rights with the manufacturer, only with the shop. The Sale of Goods Act states that goods must be as described, fit for purpose, and not have any inherent faults. If not, you can return the goods to the retailler "within a reasonable amount of time" for a refund. You are also entitled to damages (equalling the cost of a replacement or repair) for "a reasonable time", with a maximum claim period of 6 years.
I can't see any reason why a shop could possibly refuse to refund you in full if you've only had the product since Christmas.
