For the first months of the tenancy I am in, bills were not in anyones name, but we all paid a certain amount every month.
Now I find bills arriving in everyone's name including mine and I did not consent to this as my personal privacy and safety is being compromised.
Is it legal? If not, what do I do? I am happy to pay my bills but not be named on them and nobody conslted me nor did I sign anything.

You are happy to pay your bills but don't want your name on them?
Why not? If you pay them then what is the harm in your name on them? You have already said that they have been put in all your names and not just yours.
Your landlord (the property owner) is responsible for the bills at the property if there is no name on the account so it's obviously in his best interest to give the utility companies details of the tenants.
Due to the amount of unpaid "Occupier" accounts harder measures are being taken now to get rid of unnamed accounts. I know BG can now and will obtain the name of the property owner from the land registry and bill them unless they can supply the name of the tenants.0 -
If the letting agent supplied them to the utility companies then they might be in breach of data protection unless you have previously been notified that they may pass the details to them - which they almost always do (usually in the letting agreement).
However, you won't have much luck getting BG to take you off the bill until the end of the tenancy I'm afraid, whether you're happy about it or not. However I don't understand why you think they should advance credit to you though without them having your details.0 -
Under the Gas and Electricity Acts as soon as you use any gas/electricity you have entered a legally binding deemed contract.
Some 20+ million of us are named on our gas/electricity accounts; why should you be exempt?0 -
Your signature suggests that you prefer to keep anonymous.0
