Exactly - OP needs a 'girlie' firiend - as in sister, daughter or someone that will be honest. Men are useless.Take some pictures of yourself in your new specs and then you will see yourself how others see you or even take a picture and PM someone you trust on this site you with old and new glasses.
I hate myself in glasses as I have a wide nose bridge and glasses sit lopside on me. Luckily I only have to wear them for driving, TV or theatre etc but I take my OH or DD with me and they are blunt (when they get up off the floor from laughing) if the glasses look really awful!
If you want to PM me I will give you an honest opinion.
Glasses can be very sexy if you get the right shape/frame for you.
Good luck!Genie

Definitely try to bring a friend with good taste for an honest opinion, it's hard when you can't actually see well enough without glasses to see yourself in them!
As Alikay has suggested., if your style of frame comes in a lighter, softer colour it might save you money to use the same lenses and get a new frame. Colour makes a huge difference- I used to have blue-black hair and wore a black plastic frame which looked fantastic, but when I went back to blonde it looked far too heavy for me, so i now wear a similar style in purple, which is far more flattering.Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice.

glasses are very personal and you wear them day in day out for years - you get very used to a style. i would definatly recomend a friend to help you choose- in the future if you choose frames alone get the assistant to note the frames down so as you can take a friend along when they are available. i will say any dramatic style takes time to get used to as it is a look you are not used to seeing on your face. if you dont change frames that often as you have a stable prescription it may well be worth choosing a more classic design as many of the modern styles will date.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Hi
Perhaps someone who works in an opticians could help me out with this Q.
I have a nice pair of frames that have now got a few scratches on the lenses and the plastic pads that rest on your nose also need replacing.
I really like these frames - can i take them into an opticians to do those bits for me ?
How much would it set me back ? Can anyone give me any hints or tips?
Many thanks, BartGCC1: [strike]1,500[/strike] CC2:[strike]£830[/strike] Vanquis [strike]£1500[/strike] £2000 left

Most opticians are able to replace lenses into your own frames and change the nose pads.
Usually you'll have to pay for the pads (£5 ish) cost of lenses will vary depending on the type of lens needed, precription and coatings.0 -
I have to second the comments above.
I haven't yet received my glasses but if there are any problems you will be sure to hear from me.
I went to Vision Express who did my eye test and then i chose some frames. The frames were £140 and the lenses were £104, so that's a total of £244.
I did a bit of routing around the internet and read a lot about Metsuki. Basically the lenses were £20 with scratch protect and anti glare, and the frames £97, postage was £5 signed and insured cover and if you used the discount code METSUKI-BM you get 10% off.
Amazingly the exact same glasses that Vision Express wanted to charge me £244 for are soon to be mine for £116.23. Now that's a discount!! More than half price. Result.0 -
Hi
I need to replace my specs and am thinking about buying online. Has anyone used ispectacle.co.uk, metsuki.com or glassescrafter.com as they all offer the specs and lenses I want. I'm particularly interested to hear from previous Ispectacle.com customers but any reviews of these shops would be welcomed.
Thanks

What worries me about buying specs online is how do you get them to fit? I know that when I visit the opticians that my glasses have to be adjusted so that they fit my ears etc and they have to heat them to do that. Also the optician measures the distance between my eyes and the length from my eye to the lenses so that the lenses don't catch on my eye lashes or even my eye ball.0

Thanks for your reply. The same thing crossed my mind (although the information they require to ensure the lenses don't rub against my eyeballs has been supplied to me by my optician, who measured this for me)! Consequently, I am just looking into buying online as an option which I may/may not follow.
I really would welcome any reviews re. ispectacle.com, metsuki.com and glassescrafter.com by those who have used them though, as this would provide some insight for me.0
