Personally, I don't think I would have the cheek to buy my specs online and then take them to an Opticians to be adjusted. How is the Optician supposed to cover their overheads?

In my case it wasn't just a matter of adjustment - wrong centre of eye height meant the (expensive) lenses had to be binned. Hence, I wonder who would pay for such a mistake if I had eye test and bought frames in shop (A) then got the lenses online via supplier (B).

Whoever dispensed the prescription i.e. the lenses. That would be either you or the online supplier. Definitely couldn't hold the Optician responsible for something out of their hands.

When this happened last time, it was a one-stop shop, optician, frame & lenses. So the shop branch had to rectify it. Can't see myself taking an optician to small claims court for getting the centre 3mm wrong when I've ordered the actual lenses online though.

When you take the prescription elsewhere to be dispensed, you are legally taking the responsibility away from that practice and then placing it in others hands - you'd have to sue their asses!
