Advice on kitchen fitter

Hi there - finally ordered my new kitchen from Wickes so now to find someone to fit it! The friend who was going to do the job is now uncertain his skills are quite up to it so getting a couple of quotes from other people.

Wickes obviously sub contract the job out and not sure how good their fitters would be? As a very rough price they quoted £1500 to fit units for a small galley kitchen including electrics etc.

But figured if I approach the fitters direct they may do a better deal than through Wickes - anyone know who they use or if they're any good and how much to pay? Realise that without inviting you all round to see my kitchen that's a tough one but as a rough guide we're having a 600 sink unit, 500 integrated dishwasher, 1000 base and 600 oven housing on one wall plus two 600 bases and two 600 wall units on other wall plus a 600 larder cabinet.

Any advice would be hugely welcome! Thanks loads :rotfl:

Wickes use contracted fitters from each area, so finding out who they use will be a little tricky.

I know when I used to be a Design Consultant for them, I would try NOT to sell installations, it was always too pricey and some of the fitters hadn't got a clue. (Which was a shame, as the actual kitchens are very good).

Personally, I would try and get a local fitter, either from a local paper or someones recommendation.

I'm not sure where you live, but the company I work for now prices installations the following way:

£150 for ripping out the old kitchen and disposing of it
    £40 per unit
    £15 per length of cornice/pelmet
£20 per metre of worktop (plus £25 per joint)
    £45 per integrated appliance
    £30 per free standing appliance
Plumbing and electrical work is quote per job

    Hope this helps?
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
