Upgrape iPod or buy a new one?

Hi,
I've run out of space on my 30Gig iPod classic. Is it worth cracking it open and replacing the drive with a larger one, or should I ebay the one I've got and just buy a new one?
Also, how easy is the upgrade?
Cheers,
Gaz

It would be much cheaper to just delete some stuff........:p0

Waste of money buying all those MP3s though!0 -
O'm not an ipod owner but can't you move stuff onto your PC to make room for new stuff on the iPod so you don't lose things you'v epaid for? It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Yes, but I want to keep my whole music collection on there. It's just grown over the 30Gig limit, so I figured that if I bought a 120Gig drive off ebay then I'd never run out!0

Personally i'd be saving up for a new iPod.. but if you want to have a try:

Make sure you've got all your music backed up somewhere safe first!0 -
/me never knew ipods had grapes in them..
personally, i wouldn't bother trying to put in a new hdd.. maybe invest in a second hand 60gb one.. i'm sure mine will be on ebay soon, at a very attractive price!!!
check the apple refurb store, you can normally get the old 160gb ones there for the same price as a new 120gb ones

Thanks for that, it does look a bit of a nightmare though. I thought it might just be a case of cracking the seal, unplugging the old drive, plugging in the new drive and gluing it back together. Maybe I'll leave it!0

Bet you said that when you got the 30gb one...
What is it? if it's 30gb (G5/Video) ipod it's possible, but you need a low power hard drive, not just any drive will do.
You can probably sell the 30GB one for £80 to 100 or so on ebay and a 160GB refurb in the apple store is £175, so that may be a better option0 -
No, I believe it's a 3rd gen (although I'm not sure exactly how to tell!), I got it second hand without a box or accessories.

Looks like I'll have to raid the piggy bank (I've just bought some furniture, and I'm building a media server, so the piggy's quite light as it is!).
I didn't know Apple did refurbs. Is it through their web site?0
