atm problem...help please?

Morning all.... wondering if anyone can advise please....
Hubby went to atm to withdraw £300. The atm was one outside a shop , as opposed to a banks own.Anyway , it comes up on the screen "Transaction Failed" , and no cash issued from the machine. Kev goes to his bank (Barclays) , and the £300 has been debited from his account. They tell him not to worry , the machine will "self adjust" at the end of the day , and funds placed back in his account in 2 working days.
4 working days later , no sign of £300 , so kev rang Barclays , who say they will "lodge a complaint" , and it "should" be credited back in a further 10 working days!! (so at least another 2 weeks then:mad: ) I just don't think thats good enough frankly , but is there anything we can do about it?

All you can do at this stage is wait out the 10 working days. Unfortunately, it does take time to make a correction, as Barclays needs to contact the machine's owner to verify the situation. It may well be that the ATM didn't balance at the end of the day by £300, if this is the case then they should be able to credit it straight back to your account.
But all you can do now is wait.0 -
Thanks for reply rb..... kev went into the shop (which the atm was "connected to) , and the lady in the shop said "oh you're the 3rd person today!" :mad: so why not close the machine in the first place!!! Its just so frustrating , and frankly embarrassing , have had to phone the council and tell them , cos it was our rent money , although to be fair , Barclays did say they would write a letter of explanation to the council if we needed them too. So I cant knock them I suppose :rolleyes: But speaking to another friend , a similar thing happened to her , although for £50 , and it took her 2 months to get it back!! All a bit worrying really.:o

That is very good. It shows that you are unlikely to be making it up, as the machine owner will get several disputes through for the same machine on the same day. It's unlikely that several people would try the same thing on on the same day!0 -
Did you get the money back in the end Kevsam65? My wife just had same thing happen with an RBS machine at Tesco. Failed to deliver £250 and said "No response from your bank" before returning her card.
Her bank have debited the £250 and said it will take around 20 days to sort out.
Did you need to keep pushing the bank?0
