How to Transfer Shares from my Late Father's name into my Mums name
Does anyone know the cheapest way to transfer a share holding into another name?
My late father had 5 different share holdings in, BG plc, BT Plc, Centrica,, & Bae Systems, all of which are administered by Equiniti. He also has some National Grid shares which are administered by Capita. They both charge £73 transfer fee for each of the holdings which seems quite expensive. I am sure I once read somewhere that you can transfer a share from one name to another free. Has anyone got any experience in this??

Is your mum the sole executor? Has the estate applied for probate or is it not required?0

If you are thinking of selling the shares within the next couple of years or so I wouldn't bother transferring. Surely with probate, you can just sell them without the need to transfer first. As far as I know, there is't a time limit to deal with this.0

Hi,
If you have probate it's free to register the death and transfer the shares, unfortuntely if not they do require the small estates procedure to formally register a death. You cannot use the Crest transfer form until the death has been formally registered.
Hope this helps0
