Hi Pat. I can't give you any advice in this, but surely there are disability organisations that can and should assist you. Depression is a hard road, but there is light at the end. God bless you.

What rate of disability living allowance do you get?
  • Oh dear, i'm sorry you are feeling so low.

Things can/will improve, theres lots of things you could do. i would begin with seeing a doctor.
then an advisor at the job centre. to see what help with childcare you could get.
You could go to college, or teach others the skill YOU have. (lip reading is a skill), i think it is anyway. :-)

Pat, I'm sorry you are feeling so low. It's a shame you haven't found an employer who can accommodate your needs.
I work for a LA and I know we employ people who have hearing problems and they are not a fire risk.

If any worker has a special need then they are assigned a buddy for emergency evacuations and the office fire marshal should also ensure their safety. They have also upgrade fire alarms to have a flashing light.

I have worked with 2 deaf ladies. Both lipread and had limited speech. We attracted their attention by knocking on the desk as they could hear vibrations. They also used a text/type phone and email has made communicating for them much easier. I don't work with them now as they have both moved on and been promoted.

You should seek out support from some local organisations that can help you. Try googling them in your area or contact GP surgery to see if they can put you in touch.

Hi Pat, sorry to hear you are not doing too good.
I have family that are deaf and have found companies that are great for them and find ways to overcome any problems that may arise.. maybe you haven't found a good company yet.

Have you a local deaf club in your area as these are great for support and advice.. have a look at https://www.deafclub.co.uk for lots of info and help.

Also RNID have a section on their website that may help: http://www.rnid.org.uk/information_resources/employment/

I know this isn't gonna help with your depression, but maybe some practical help in giving these sites with info may start to help you find the right solution.
