money stolen by workman

hi, i,m not sure is this is the right board to put this on but my daughter had a workman come to sort her boiler out and a ds game went missing out of the kitchen window,,she phoned up the company and told them and a few months later the boiler needed doing again and this time 2 men come ,different from the 1 who was there last time and she said they was there about 6 hours in and out all the rooms and when they left she found £30 missing out of the 1 cupboard, she had only put it there in the morning before the workman come,,it was a gift from her granddad as it was her bithday ....i said are you sure its not dropped somewhere etc ..but she says no ,it is gone..should we tell the company again or just leave it..i bet they won,t believe it happened twice and i would not like to get people in trouble just incase it did turn up,,though daughter insists it is gone...plus i don,t know if this sounds far fetched but if we phoned up to complain and someone got in trouble over it i worry that they may come to seek their revenge on my daughter who has 3 children under 4....i know that sounds silly when i read it back but i suffer from depression a lot and it makes me think the worst..

Without proof thees not much you can do. Do you mind me asking if she was so sure that the workman from the company stole the ds game why did she ask the same company for a repair to her boiler and invite them into her home again
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I wouldnt accuse anybody from the trades until I was absolutely sure or had some hard evidence like cctv. Whilst there are rogues out there, not everyone is like the tv programs lead you to believe.

I suggest she uses a more trustworthy company, ask for I.D and if it helps stay in the same rooms as them while they carry out any work. Its a shame if this has genuinly happened :(

Tradesmen earn decent money & are unlikely to risk their job for £30, honestly.

Has she thought of who else might have taken it?

But it might have been stolen before or she might simply have thought she put it there?

Its my guess heating engineers are on £100 per day upwards, they are not going to risk that for £30:confused:

I thing that if I had lost something on one visit I would be extra careful on the next.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

The way I read that was the game was nicked via the kitchen window, that could have been anyone:confused:

    True.

It also may sound harsh but I think if its happened on both visits perhaps I would be cautious enough to not rule out pulling a fast one over you, or shes extremely unlucky._pale_

I sympathise with her situation, it's difficult when people come in to do work especially if they go into more than one room.

You said that she phoned the company the first time. She should phone the Housing Association not the company as they have contracted the company to do the work. She should tell them this has happened twice, there might be others that have complained of the same thing but if no-one tells them they will carry on with the same people.
