State of play with reclaiming bank charges

Can anyone advise me what the current state of play is with regards to reclaiming bank charges. I successfully claimed mine back from Halifax in 2007 but my husband has 2 accounts with Nationwide. At the time we did not think to reclaim his but he mentioned about doing this a few days ago. Can they still be reclaimed back?
