Removing fingerprint from camera lens

Hi All,
Any suggestions how to do this?
Last time it was used was 1 month ago, so the fingerprint's been on the lens since then.
It's an ultra compact digital camera, so not much room to play with.
I don't want to do anything without checking with others first, as I don't want to risk scratching the lens
Any suggestions?

I'd give it a gentle rub with a micro-fibre cloth.0

One tip I remember is to hold the camera with the lens pointing downwards and just gently go over the surface first so any dust will fall off and not be rubbed into the lens. I've got a special brush somewhere for this purpose, it blows air as well to shift the dust. Something like this.
If a micro-fibre cloth won't shift it on it's own, try damp one first then a dry one. Make sure the damp one is wrung out as much as possible first though. It's my problem, it's my problem

You should also get some good lens cleaning solution and lens paper from a photographic shop.
Microfibre will help, but make sure it is 100% clean, and you mist up the lens with your breath and clean gently in a circular motion.0 -
I used to use the cotton wool buds to clean the lense on my point and shoot digital. Worked for me0

If it is a fingerprint there will be fatty deposits on the lens and you will need to use a grease removing solvent. Simply rubbing will only smear the surface.0

I'd not recommend using cotton wool, it's the worse type of material to clean a lens, use a lint free cloth or lens paper with correct fluid as per post #5, however this is only a compact I guess, still principle is the same. I'd not let cotton wool anywhere near my pro lenses!0

Agreed, I use a hama lens pen to look after mine, and always keep a UV filter on top, so that if anything should happen to touch the lens, it won't do any lasting damage.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

I would use a fresh spectacle lens wipe, which is unlikely to be contaminated by previous dust, and which will contain a special lens cleaner. Also the wipe fibre will be designed for lenses. Roll the lens wipe into a cylindrical shape, and use the end of the cylinder as a brush to clean the fingerprint from the lens.
You can get spectacle lens wipes fom many chemists, and Asda also sell them.0 -
I've got an old (Genuine) chamois leather that i use for cleaning my lenses (glasses and photography kind) as well as my laptop screen.
A breath on the lens then a quick rub with the leather (Twist it into a point on small areas) and it's clean....

You can pick-up lens cleaning kits c/w brush, solution, lens cloth & polishing cloth for less than £3.00 on Ebay, I got one from a seller called nearrservices or something similar. I used it on my Fujifilm S5700. As the kit also came with some cotton buds I was able to clean my camera lens on my phone, so a cheap pack of those is also worth having around.Never Knowingly Understood.
