Sorry, pineapple only works if the OTHER dogs are fed it.
The enzyme in the pineapple is supposed to make the poo smell bad (!!!) to the dog.
It works 'a bit' on our cocker spaniel. She only eats our other dog's poo and this behaviour does seem to reduce when pineapple is fed to that dog.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

so long as you are regularly worming ( 4 x per year min ) then there should be no probs...eating wild rabbit would be more of a concern to me0 -

maybe, but if the dog is ingesting a lot of other dogs poop I would be concerned about the level of infestation. I also believe worms can be a cause of the problem, or at least contribute to it.
I agree, the pineapple only works if it is eating its own poo, the enzyme in it breaks down the meat proteins before they are expelled in the poo, tus making the poo less appealing.0 -
God, this must be a staffie thing, as my 2 year old loves the stuff. And while I do think it's pretty minging that she eats it, it drives my bf absolutely hopping mad. We've got Leave pretty much down to a tee, but it's just a case of watching her and making sure she doesn't have a crafty scoff. Sometimes I see her watching it, waits till I go past and then tries to go back, so you gotta have eyes in the back of your head.
Ah well, seeing as I have a 3 month old baby, I suppose eyes in the back of my head will come in quite handy soon enough!

Yep, I can vouch for that - trying to keep an excited bull terrier at a safe distance while you remove a pooh covered muzzle, and keep it off yourself and the carpet is not a fun experience. I'd recommend a sharp pair of eyes and the leave command any day.
As said by previous posters, mine tends to eat other dogs doings if they've eaten something rich - she obviously thinks it's food as she turns her nose up at the well digested stuff. (Too much info or what!) It grosses me out, but she hasn't a clue why I'm doing my nut as she thinks it's on a par with her usual scavenging. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
My dogs do this as well it has made me physically sick once or twice.
The vet nurse at puppy classes says it often happens when another dog eats cheap food full of artificial flavourings as the flavouring is still there when it passes out so it tastes yummy to our dogs. This makes sense as my two are very attracted to certain places where I assume the same dog has been leaving 'tasty treats' . I think it's pretty harmless, just revolting, I do worm them very regularly.
I haven't found a good way to stop it, my terrier in particular is very good at ignoing me when she is having fun. I find they get very hyper after eating poo, not sure if it's excitement because they know they have been naughty or if it's loads of chemicals in the poo. They often roll in it as well as eating....absolutely GROSS !
I still remember the first time ..... "Oh look she's got a stick ! OH NO, it's NOT a stick !!!" Puke puke puke !!

Had three dogs of my own, a Dalmation, and two Cocker Spaniels.
Not had this problem, but walked with an owner of a lovely black Lab and he did it. Lab, not owner.
First thing in the morning, yuk. I was often heaving.
So much research, yet this horrible habit seems to have no answer.0 -
Ahh, elsien - you mention rich food which doesn't get digested very good, well I do notice she always seems to go for the pale grey looking pooh, quite soft too. Obviously there's something in it that she likes, i've never seen her eat well digested dark solids at all.
I need to do some research on dog poop.
Thanks all
Pollyana, we too have a 3 month old baby girl, it's like having two kids in the house with the staffie

Not in my experience - I had a poo eating Lab x collie and she stopped eating other dogs poo when she was fed the pineapple (and other products containing enzymes, like courgettes and a bad breath treatment which is no longer available.)Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
my cav/beagle doggy boy, who keeps putting his face on this keyboard as he doesnt want me to type this, eats horse poo..on our walk through a stable area and horse track to woods, there are many servings of this,he tends to only go for the balls of firm poo rather than any sloppy stuff(gross info i know!)...why horse poo tho?? surely its only straw/hay etc..
we do laugh at the way he actually looks "over his glasses" as he nicks it in front of us!..he does leave it when i shout leave, but i have to catch him before he sees it.
sometimes our walk is like a buffet at a disco for him...lots of diff poo served along a track!TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0
