If I was to buy a SLR now I'd go for the Nikon D50.

May I suggest you have a look at the tonnes of websites on this to get an idea on what the good cameras around are.

    http://www.steves-digicams.com/
    http://www.dpreview.com/
    http://www.dcresource.com/

    To name a few.

Personally for that sort of money I would consider the Nikon D70s,the Canon 20D , KM 5D or the Pentax *IS2.

Remember you need to factor in the cost of camera cases and memory cards as well.

  • I bought the Nikon D70s... fantastic camera with great reviews. Bought from Currys using 5% discount code and 5% back using Egg card.

I was involved with a charity thing in Southport at the end of last year. There was a photocall with about 10 photographers from local papers there.

To a man they had Canon digital SLR cameras.

    Nuff said.

That's cos at the top end there is nothing to touch canon didgi

you can get a D20 for around £800
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
  • I've a Canon EOS350D.Great camera with fantastic results and lots of change from your £750.:D

Have a look HERE...I don't know if it's a good price but it will give you a good idea.

    Save 3% through quidco.

You can get a Nikon D50 for £399.99 from Boots online if you order it today or tomorrow. Their normal price is £499 but there's a thread here on the Grabbit forum about Boots having a 10% off everything today and tomorrow only plus another 10% voucher code here. I haven't gone as far as the checkout yet (OH will never let me...) but there's no obvious reason why it shouldn't work.

If you go through Quidco (4.5% cashback apparently) and have a Boots Advantage card then it becomes even cheaper...

    Great bargain IMHO
  • I agree with Kentish on the Nikon D50. I have the Canon EOS 350 and it is a superb camera but for £399 you cannot beat the Nikon if you can get it from Boots today with the 10% off and use the vouchers.

Spend the rest of the money you have on a decent lens/flashgun as that is what ends up costing the money.

    Have Fun.

D50 is a nice piece of kit (I have one)! With the sort of money the OP wants to spend s/he could buy a couple of extra lenses as well. BTW the kit picture editing software the D50 comes with is very poor.

However the Canon D20 or the Nikon D70s are so so much more better. The Nikon D70s comes with a great kit lens as well.

Thank you all for your help. Im still a little unsure between the Canon 20D (8mp) or the Nikon D70(6mp). I think I'll get the Nikon D70s from the site above seems to be a bargain.

at £584.99 i dont think this price can be beat.

    Package Included:

    UPDATE ITS A FORGIN SITE

any ideas where to get the nikon D70s or canon 20D camera from the uk at the best possible price.

    all feedback/comments very welcome.

    thanks
