on the moneysaving front, £440 is a rip-off.... I don't know about now, but if you are on their mailing list they used to send progressively cheaper reductions up to the date.
So you could get that week for about £200 if they are not full - they will reduce it.0 -

Thanks - I will wait and keep checking the site for reductions in the summer holidays. They only offered 10% reduction if I booked within 14 days after receipt of the brochure so I guess I should hang on to see if they reduce the price nearer the summer.0 -
Hi,
This info will be no good for Bootman as his son is too young, but for anyone with older children www.doit4real.co.uk is a lottery funded programme that is run by the youth hostel association. They offer 6 night activity camps for 11-17 year olds during the school holidays. Because it is funded it only costs £100 per child and if you are in receipt of certain benefits (income support/housing benefit/free school lunches i think) it only costs £25!!!!!
They only have the details of the easter camps at the moment but I understand the summer ones should be launched online soon.
There are only 3 locations at easter, with about 7 pick up points (they include transport by coach from certain places) but I think that the summer programme is much bigger with more camps and many more pick up points.
If you go on the website you can sign up to receive the summer brochure as soon as it comes out.
I hope that this helps someone - it is a great opportunity for children to have a great experience no matter what kind of income their family has.
If anyone wants the details of the easter camps I have been sent them in .pdf format so pm me your email address and i will forward it to you.0 -
Cost was £260 for 5 days last June. Took all my old clothes for the activities which Mum then put in the bin on return, even took some from friends and my brother but binned the lot. Only took something nice to wear to the disco and a decent towel.
We did abseiling, quadding, canoes, kayaking, mountain trek on foot, a massive dirty assault course which was full of mud. There was also raft building and the sailing, it was quite hard with 6 barrels and a bit of rope to use and some wood. We slept in tents in camp beds, 4 to a tent. There was showers. Food was good, had 3 meals a day and plenty of it.Plenty of snacks and drinks. There is a tuck shop to buy sweets so you can take £15.00 for tuck and gifts. There isn't a phone and no signal for the mobile so don't bother with that, there is a electric charging room full of plugs that you can charge stuff up in, its locked during activities. Do't take expensive cameras, take a couple of disposable ones with a name sticker on, don't take your best trainers either as they will get wet! Take some binbags for washing and wet stuff. Take loads of socks 3 pairs a day, everyone ran out.
We all really enjoyed and was so glad to go.There was 2 schools there and mixed a bit.Panda xx

Thank you for telling me how you got on. It sounds fun. I hope my friend can talk his mum into letting him go with me.0

Hi Amba,
CAn I ask a question?
Do they cater for children with special needs/disabilities? If they do would they be in mixed groups. So, would my 2 girls be able to go away together? One with disability one without?Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

sorry, stumped me there.....
not sure. I'm certain that they can cater for special needs at most centres, but not sure about mixing....
