RBS (DD) bank charges.

The DD attempted to debit £29, yet I only had £10 in my account - so it went minus by about £17 (i don't have an overdraft facility). This morning I have noticed bank charges for £38 and this is all new to me as i've always kept my bank account in shipshape order.

i'm unemployed - what do they want? blood?

No, they just want you to keep funds in your account for direct debits - the same as any other bank.

However if it's the first charge you've had, speak to them nicely and you might be let off this once and have the charge refunded. Also they should be able to do something if you have some kind of benefits coming in.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

They aren't interested in refunding me - they keep mentioning "recent publicity" rubbish. they have however, waived the £20 for unauthorized credit.

The £28 maintenance fee? count yourself lucky you got anything back. Why didn't you look at your finances as soon as you were made unemployed?

I wouldn't 'depend' on them in the future. You can call the bank or go into a branch and ask if the money will be cleared in time :) better to be safe than sorry
