Post Office Car Insurance

Anyone got a policy with the Post Office and most importantly, are they okay dealing with any claims?
For the first year in many I have found that my DirectLine renewal quote is more than most other insurers (via Confused). Post Office is coming out cheapest.
My insurance is not costly but every bit helps. Is it worth asking DirectLine to reconsider their price as I've been with them for so long?
What happens with protected no claims also? I had a claim in 2003 - no idea how much for. I had protected claims at that time and since so no change in premiums after that but they ask if you've claimed in the last 5 years so that is now no, then they ask how many years no claims you've had and I don't know - do I put 5 years? I presume that the protection is with directline and doesn't go to another insurer if I change? I ask because this might make a difference to the premium I'm being charged now.
It's only £199 plus protected no claims and legal cover on top but Post Office and most others are quoting from £167 including protection but not the legal.
