  • You carry on rambling :)
I think it's great when some-one starts to try and sort out where their money is going, meal planning etc. and not wasting things.

There's nothing wrong with egg and chips and beans on toast occasionally...they're healthy as long as not eaten for every meal.

    You go for it! :T

  • Had a quick scoot around MrM's yesterday spending £36.84 with just under a quarter of my budget left. Have realised that due to OH's bday we will be out for tea twice so I can shove a couple of meals over to next week :D. Still hoping to be under this month, it just depends how on target I can keep half term  .
  • That is really impressive, Silaqui! Well done to you. :j

Haven't read this thread in the last week (been busy doing all kinds of things, but hope to catch up before month end!), but have just updated my spreadsheet so have done my signature too.....

At this point in the month my budget is £61.40 of the £112 for the month (allowed less next week as it's half-term, so nothing for feeding my GDs) - but I've been using as much as possible from the freezers and cupboards.

As a result, I've spent just £35.37 -- and of that over £13 of the goods are still in the cupboards/freezers waiting to be used :T

Quite right, you need a variety of foods so I would suggest introducing that old favourite cornfalkes into your evening meal menu :rotfl:

Well done Silaqui - . It's a fabulous feeling isn't it :D. Keep up the good work :j .
  • I have tried everything to get my weekly shopping bill down but every week I seem to overspend and buy loads of stuff. I have cupboards bursting with stuff and my freezer is very well stocked but I run out of something simple like milk or toilet rolls and go in to the shop to just buy them and come out with half a trolley full of stuff. There are three of us and a dog and my basics come out at more than some of you are spending Every week :o

    Every week I buy:

    4 or 5 x 2L Cravendale milk (£6.64/£8.30)
pack of 9 toilet rolls (approx £4.50)
2 packs of kitchen roll (£2.10)
12 tins of dog food (dog has colitis and has to have the same sort) (£6.50)
2 tubs of Flora (I try and get this in bulk when it is on bogof) (£1.00)
1 dozen free range eggs (from local shop) (£1.50)
8 yoghurts (tend to buy muller on offer) (£3.00)
2.5kg potatoes (currently 69p in Aldi)
    other fresh fruit (about £5.00)
salad stuff and veg. (about £5.00)
bread (currently using Aldi breadmix so £1.58)
    naan bread for curry (£1)
    squash (2 for £2)
Sanitary protection (me and DD1) (I buy some every week so always have on hand £4.00)
cheese - whatever is on offer (about £4.00)
    Stardrops (85p)
    Surf (2.60)
washing up liquid (usually get 2 for £1 so 50p a week)
bleach (usually get 2 for £1 so 50p a week)
    flour (about £1)
Stork for baking (buy in bulk works out about 30p a week)
    caster sugar (89p in Aldi)

That comes to £56.81 and I haven't started to add in stuff to make main meals like meat and fish etc. or things which I only get occasionally like tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, baking extras, herbs and spices, stock cubes, jellies, tinned fruit, corned beef, tinned beans, tinned tomatoes, tuna, sardines, pulses, pasta, rice, tea bags and coffee etc. I know I don't probably need to get the kitchen roll but I have a thing about cleaning and use it all the time.

I usually spend about £80 - £100 a week in total, and that's if I don't get tempted by impulse buys. I really admire people who can do it on less but I am not sure how I could. I cook most things from scratch and never buy ready meals or shop pizzas etc. I even make my own cooked meats for sandwiches in lunch boxes.
