Just made a batch of Twinks, thought I would try them with maple syrup (well the golden syrup with the maple flavouring) so will let you know how they go down...

Thanks for the ideas on growing stuff, theyr'e great...just need to get some pots/containers and seeds then, hope I am not too late to do it...
    ...

sorry about this extra post but I forgot to say that I bought loads of black buckets from a local florist for 10p each and they're big enough for quite a few things (though not the massively tall tomatoes). you just need to punch a few drainage holes in them. ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Hello everyone, still here and plodding along although our budget is looking a bit tentative  ! I think I'm going to bust this month as I didn't count half-term into the equation and the kids always eat loads during the holidays (not this time though ! lol)

I'm off to Mr Ts tonight to get a few bits so we'll see how I get on. Going to try and stick to the list but if there's something on offer that i'll use, then I won't hesitate to stick it in my trolley. If it saves me money in the long run then the budget will have to be broken :p .

rosieben - you did well with your buckets ! I thought I got mine at the bargain price of 75p lol.

Can vouch what rosieben says - they're great for growing things in (we used them for our toms last year and they did better than in the growbags :D ).

Right off to get dinner cooked (spag bol bulked out with oats - will make enough for 10 portions ;) ).

Have a great evening everyone xx

Edit: Mrs M, sorry to hear you've got to have an operation but good news you can stay.

Thanks for the half term comment - I forgot completely it's half term next week! Actually works the other way with us - we have the stepkids every week and also for some weekday evenings and overnight but they are dropped home in the morning if it's holidays, unless OH has time off.

So no packed lunch - unless OH is off and has them all day - will need to check as may need to double the dinner that day

Already spent all the grocery budget but will be fine for another week.... trouble is there's two weeks till payday :(

  • I went to Tesco after uni for whoospies today and bought:

2 * packs of King Prawns, 2 finest christmas puddings, pork and apple sausages, fresh beef meatballs, 2 packets of chicken garlic kievs, 50p each
    big beef roasting joing £1.36
    packet smoked salmon £0.62
Bogof Pepperoni pizzas, £0.82 each (but really £82p for 2 iyswim?)

I make about 11 nights dinners (and puddings) out of that for £7.80, all I need to do is use some of the noodles, pasta and potatoes I already have in for accompaniments. And veggies obviously.

Because I go shopping very often (and buy little things each time) it is hard for me to report each shopping. :o. After the great deals last week, my spending is going back to normal. I only managed to get 1kg of reduced carrots at 49p (not so cheap really).

So far I spent £22.43 out of my £70 target, plus consuming about £10 of frozen meat. I am expecting major spending this weekend on cooking wine and frozen meat (I think Sainsbury's is offering frozen lamb chop at half price -- £2.49 500g ;)).

Went to Mr T's the other day & found them selling frozen Quorn mince at 99p - as this is the only mince we eat I bought 10 packs - I've never seen it that cheap before! Ended up spending £26.25 in there; then today DD18 got me to pick her up at Mr Ms. Had BF trouble so ended up with 2 tubs of ice cream, 2 chocolate eggs & 2 pkts of hot x buns!!! Luckily after about 5 mins she decided he wasn't worth it; so put back the eggs & ice cream, just kept the buns......whew, it was still £10.62 though in there. Off to France tomorrow (diff budget) so hopefully still on track for coming in well under budget - that surplus is earmarked for an overpayment on the CC!! Did forget though that I've invited the rellies for a curry on the 28th, may have to get creative with that...saw in Mr M's though they have Cobra at £2 for 4 bottles until 22nd Feb so can get the drink cheaply (ltd to 2 per customer)...
