Ok here is the deal my CD/DvD drive is not working. Ive tried several disc and it doesnt read any cds or dvds. When i insert a disc it lights up but it wont spin the disc and when i check it in computer to start it manually, it doesnt even recongise that ive inserted a disc. Ive checked device manager and it says it is working fine. Ive checked the cable and i dont see any compromises in the wire. Ive check bios and it recognises the drive. I dont believe it is a fault with the drive because it eject from computer commands and manually as well.
The only suspicion i have is that i havent used this computer in about a year since i mainly use my laptop so it has gotten quite dusty. I know this can effect the lens. However i dont see the point in buying a lens cleaner since it the drive wont even spin it anyway. I tried opening up my computer to remove the drive but that proved impossible. So yea, basically im stuck. Does anyone have any solution? I heard it could also be a registry error or somethig. Help would be GREATLY appreciated. Specs are below.

Well, the fact it doesn't spin the disc is a bad sign. It could be a build up of dust or fluff inside, the only way to check is to take it out of the PC, and either vacuum or blow air through it.
I honestly can't see it being a software error. If it spun and then did nothing, that would be a whole different kettle of fish...
The couple of times my CD drives have failed to spin discs, it has been down to the fact they were goosed. So if cleaning it doesn't work, looks like you'll need a new one!If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
