What airport are you flying out of and what dates?0

Im sorry but the words CHEAP, FLIGHT and ORLANDO do not go together in August.
Worst time of year to go anyway imo. Look at Oct.0 -
Flights will not be cheap in August, it is peak season and surprisingly, sales to Orlando are going well this year. The sooner you book the better, and agreed the weather is not good in August at all, far too hot and sticky0

Further to previous replies-it is true that DIRECT flights to Orlando will not be cheap in August especially with charter airlines. If you are willing to fly via a US gateway then it could be cheaper. We booked flights with US Airways via Philadelphia so try them.First check Kayak.co.uk and Moneysupermarket.co.uk and try to travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday. If you find a flight then check on the airlines website as they can be cheaper, also they allow you to play around with dates to get the cheapest overall package. Set a guide price you are willing to pay and book that flight when you see it as it will probably have gone up the next time you access the site.It takes perseverance but you can save a few hundred pounds on your flights even in August but good luck.0

Agree with Jasper, also try other Florida airports, we flew to Tampa, about an hours easy drive from Orlando, in August with Virgin/Delta via New York. It broke the journey up nicely and would definately do it again, especially as it saved me between £1,500 and £2,000 for the 5 of us. Most of the search engines allow you to choose "nearby airports", Kayak certainly does, so worth ticking this option to open up lots of alternative options.
If you choose the indirect option be sure to check the total journey time, one option I was offered was via LA !! Cheap but 25 hours journey time, NorthWest were also cheap but again 19 hours including stopovers.0 -
August in Orlando would not be my idea of a holiday - too hot (highs of around 90, lows - at night - of 73 - and I imagine it is that very humid sticky heat where there is no escape except air conditioned malls and hotels). I experienced Miami in August once, and my only memory was on leaving the hotel for the first time, an experience somewhat similar to walking into a very hot sauna. It is like a wall of heat.
I think it rains a lot too - and it is hurricane season  plus it gets very busy. But if this is the only time you can go then you have little choice.
Tampa is a good airport as an alternative to Orlando - we flew into Miami this year at Christmas (and saved a lot on the flights). On the way up we broke the journey by having 3 nights at the beach, then did the 4 hour drive back on our last day. If you are going for 14 nights this could be a nice 2 centre alternative. We got our flights with AA - £400 for flying out on 22nd of December, coming back on 5th direct from Heathrow. AA were not brilliant on the way out (but nothing to complain about), and one of the best airline crews I have experienced on the way back so I would definately fly with them again (but they are in theory not as good as BA or Virgin).
I think direct flights are advisable as once you touch down in the states you have to clear customs, collect baggage before you connect to your onward domestic flight. If you are going to do indirect on the way out I would say change in Europe where customs will be a lot less hassle. (Dublin? Paris? Amsterdam?).0
