    Talking to yourself, !!!!!!?

Yes, but what is objectionable is the apparant 'glee' and 'excitement' that accompanies some of the posting of bad news.

Apparent to you maybe - perhaps you can cite some example of this 'glee' which you ascribe to posters?
And yes that is true, a lot of it is humour, taking the p*ss out of those who take themselves waaaaaaaaaay too seriously (of whom there are many)
Hmmm, what's happening around us now is quite serious to most people who are going to find their lives strongly impacted from events. Maybe you are set up nicely and can afford to sit back and watch it unfold - good for you - but plenty of the rest of us stand to lose a lot or have ambitions dashed.

Certainly MSE think it worthy of having a dedicated group to discuss. Perhaps if your main motive is to spend hours every day 'taking the !!!!' (as you call it, a lot of what is posted is personal abuse in my opinion) you might go to a group designed for such purposes like the MoneySavers Arms?

I can't help what you choose to read into my comments, seems like you are determined attribute feelings of 'glee' irrespective.

I'm merely highlighting that "this is a depression" is now an opinion coming out of the serious financial press/establishment.

Anyone who is currently buying the government line that we are just going through a bit of a downturn that's going to put itself right next year (was previously going to pick up H2 2009) should take opinions and links of this sort into consideration.

It doesn't mean there will be a depression but I think that it has to be considered a strong possibility now. Certainly we should be planning for at least a couple of years of very hard times and not assume it's all going to come good within a year or so. The main media is still sticking to the 'it'll all be over by Christmas' type spin from Brown/Darling so maybe MSEers reading all this info can gain a bit of an advantage.

The more information people have, the better.

Well said. Seems some people just can't help shooting the messenger though. Sometimes I suspect that a few regulars come here just to argue and let off steam.

One of the best things about this group is that there are lots of links that bring news to your attention that you might normally have missed because it's simply not covered on the main media. The mainstream media is currently in headless chicken mode so while it gets across the message that things are bad, there is no real explanation of what is going on.

Anyone following the links which are frequently posted in this group by the various 'gloomsters' will get a much better informed picture. That's if they can get around the inevitable noise from the usual crowd of abuse slingers that accompanies the posting of 'gloomy' news links of course.

Yes but your message is just the message of one man - Dr Doom - Mr Peter Sciff - and you push his views on here relentlessly day and night and never put forward anyone elses view. Why's that?

    .

We have only just got in to a recession how can it be a depression yet?

What is the technical term for a depression or is it in fact just the same as a recession?

PS You only ever thank Bad news never good, so I would understand you only find bad news useful. You must get somthing out of it if it is not glee what is it?

Yes but just read your tone. You are telling us. We don't need telling, we are quite capable of reading a wide range of opinions and making our own minds up. We know we're in the !!!!!! - it's obvious. We don't need your patronising posts, treating us as if we are a bunch of idiots. And we don't need the views of Peter Schiff constantly shoved down our throats either. How's about you find yourself a less gloomy prophet? Or better still form some opinions of your own?

I'm highlighting the fact that high profile voices in the financial world are now starting to call "Depression". Something worthy of comment. Well, FT Alphaville thought so and I agree.

I don't have to justify who I give 'thanks' to or why I click the thanks button - and maybe you should consider that your apparent behaviour of running around keeping a count of who is thanking whom for what sort of story on this board is more than a little paranoid, hmmmm?

Excellent, we do not have to justify why we think you take glee from bad news either.
