Anti-virus software question

Hi,
After reading one of the sticky threads on here, I decided it was time to update my computer's security and I downloaded AVG. However, there seems to be a problem with the software; the anti-virus, anti-spyware and update manager are displaying as 'database is outdated.'
I have tried updating it through the update manager but it isn't working. This error message comes up:
The connection with update server has failed. Please follow these steps:
- Make sure your Internet connection is active, please try to open the www.avg.com website.
- Try to run the update later or schedule an automatic update for another time.
- Make sure the connection parameters are set properly.
(I don't really understand what the third point means!)
Also, not related to the AVG question, I just downloaded ZoneAlarm and a warning came up for something called 'Bonjour.' I denied access because I had noticed this in my program files the other day and was unsure what it was. Just wondering really if anyone knows if this is a virus or anything bad?
** The published for this program is Apple Inc. And when I try to uninstall it, it seems to try and install something?
Thank you in advance

AVG isn't really very good. You might consider trying Avira AntiVir instead.
Bonjour is an Apple program that was probably installed along with iTunes or Safari. Full details here.0 -
I 2nd Martys advice. AVG isnt very good these days, AVIRA is (To my mind) the best free anti virus going:idea:0

Thank you both for your comments. I'm not having any luck with AVG anyway, so I will try Avira. Reassuring to know what Bonjour is, thought it sounded a bit suspect!0
