Hello everyone
Anyone offer any advise on dealing with Direct Line
Had an accident last week in my car, I was at fault. Direct Line have advised is a total loss and will be written off. Have given me market price for car which am happy to accept. Does anyone know exactly what documents I need to send them?
Thank You

They'll probably need the log book, insurance certificate and the keys.
What have they asked for?0 -
Well I wanted to get ahead of myself and get prepared to send what they wanted, but I have spoken to 4 different people there who advise me several different things to send such as;
Log Book
Service Records
Driving License
(they already have keys)0 -
Don't forget to detach Section 9 from the logbook to send to DVLA to notify of the transfer of the vehicle's keepership. This is your responsibility to do, not the insurer's.
Get the insurance company to return the tax disc to you so you can claim a refund on the outstanding months tax. For that you need form V14 from post Office or downloadable from www.direct.gov.uk/motoring

Documents you will need is your V5 a photocopy of your driving licence and original MOT certificate if applicable and keys. With regard to section 9 on the V5 you need to ask for the address of the salvage company who has or will have your vehicle to complete this section. Most insurance companys will sell the vehicle salvage to a salvage company so they will be the new owner and not the insurance company. Also most insurance compnies will complete this section for you. Definately get your tax disc bask as per previous post.0

Exactly the same happened to me when some kind person crashed into my car when it was parked outside my house and drove off.....nice. Happy enough with the amount offered by Direct Line. The letter I got today said send section 9 of reg document to DVLA and the rest to Direct Line also send them the insurance certificate. No spare keys needed, no MOT or anything else. In fact they said they have already sent the cheque. What does annoy me is that my outstanding insurance premium seems to still be payable even though the I dont own the car (direct line own it) so i now have to insure a new car, insure a car I don't own, loose the 2 years NCD I had, and will no doubt have the premiums of a 17 year old new driver! 2 claims in 3 years have done for me (neither may fault in the real sense of the word, car keys stolen from house so locks had to be changed and a hit and run), anyone know any good brokers, Im sick of comparison web sites!!0
