Why not have cupcakes instead of a big birthday cake as each child gets a whole cake to take home and they are not too big. There are some good cakes on this link that look simple enough to copyhttp://blog.pinkcakebox.com/1st-birthday-cupcake-tier-2008-07-23.htm

You could always arrange them in the shape of a number 1 on a board or put them on a cake standPucker up and kiss it Whoville! - The Grinch:kiss:0 -
Thank you for the brilliant ideas. Went into the Works today and found DK colour books which are also teethers at 2 for £0.99p so I bought a few of them. The cake is a bit of a worry though.

Gosh at my DD's 2nd birthday I invited all of her little friends to lunch, telling the parents it was 1 hour. They ate, sandwiches with the crusts cut off of cream cheese or ham. Cucumber sticks, carrot sticks, strawberries & grapes. The sweet treat was a victoria sponge with bright pink butter icing in the middle. I gave chunky crayons to each child instead of a party bag.
The big thing that they all loved for the 20 or so minutes they ran around was balloons. Everyone stayed for about an hour & a half then it was home for a wee nap until we picked up the older children from school.
Very simple and the kids loved it.0 -
