Would you fit Amtico yourself ?

Surely it can't be that difficult, we've been quoted £1825. to lay ply and then 11 boxes (2m each) of Amtico, I love the product but the actual floor itself is £187.00
Has anybody tried ?

Can't believe you can get 22m of genuine Amtico for that price but well done if you have. As for laying it yourself, well at that price it might be worth a go but DH is a tiler and he reckons it's a right pain! Best bet would be to get another quote, can't stress strongly enough that personal recommendation really is the way to go even if it costs a bit more. Good luck;)Time, Tide and Diarrhoea wait for no man.0

My dh is an electrician who works with a very good kitchen company quite a lot and he is also astounded that you were able to get the entire floor for £187. Are you sure it is actually Amtico or a cheaper brand?
Anyway he says it is really tricky to lay and would not recommend doing it yourself - even he would pay someone and he puts his hand to quite a lot of stuff like this.
As GollyGosh said get another quote but get a personal recommendation if you possibly can.0 -
I'm looking at the Spacia range which is £17 a box of 2m's all looks genuine but I guess you never know, I've seen it for £22 too.
It would seem you pay for the fitting though and it's at least £15m2 for fitting where ever you go, so back to the drawing board0 -
Just asking the obvious here, but it's 11 square metres, not 22? I think the 2m should read m2?Debbie0

I think you are right there is some mega confusion over area, boxes size and size!
GG how big is your room (give the dimensions) and post a link to the product you want if you can.
Looking around it's seems the price of the flooring is £22 per square meter (so £17 reasonable). But comes in boxes of 2.5 square meters so a box is 50 odd quid.0 -
they make two main ranges. spacia & spacia easyfit. which one do you have?
the easyfit is certainly a possible DIY job.Get some gorm.0 -
Normal rate for fitting amtico is approx £25 - £30 per m2.
this would include all your prep.
I work in the industry but I am not a fitter myself.0 -
Amtico is brilliant stuff and have it in the kitchen and bathroom !!
When they lay it they are very strict on what type of floor surface that it can be laid on and with anything it is the preparation that determines how good a job is .
Amitco is expensive stuff and very time consuming to lay and to be honest it is worth paying to get a professional to lay0 -
I am just about to buy some Amtico Spacia and wondered if you could point me in the direction of the £17 m2 stuff. Thank you.
BTW we are getting a professional to lay it, as we want it to look good and to last. It is costing so much money (I think our tiles and adhesive are going to cost £1100) so in my opinion it is worth doing it properly. I know DH and I wouldn't do half as good a job as a professional.0 -
Spacia is the new range of Amtico I think. its about half the price of the normal Amtico. I am interested in the fitting charge though as I just posted a thread on having this all downstairs in our new build. I woudl be very intestered in hearing from anyone in the Kent area please.
Thanks
