Dodgy trade in, any come back ?

Have decided that my current p.o.s has to go, having had more electronic problems.
I want to trade it in at my local vauxhall dealer (where they have relieved me of vast amounts of dosh for not fixing my car.)
Do i have to tell them that there are issues with the car.
Can they do anything after the deal is done, when they realise that the car will need fixing (even if they can fix the sodding thing)

any thoughts........

There is no requirement for you to proffer information about your car unless they ask you specifically.

That said you will sign a PX form where you confirm title, write off status etc.

If the car is a p.o.s then it's likely the dealer will kick it out to auction where the buyer has to be aware.

  • no, its upto them to find out

Tell em they have serviced it + done any repairs

If they have done the repairs surely a quick check of there database will highlight to them exactley what the problems are. What exactly are the issues then we may be better placed to advise.
  • It is up to them to appraise the car properly. If they do it properly they will either discover for themselves the problems you mention or you will have to lie to cover it up.
If they don't do it properly (unless your getting cash back) it is unlikely that they will ever pursue you for any faults. As they would only discover these a few days after the deal has been completed.

However that been said if you answer questions dishonestly then your no better than them.
  • the car has had its engine management light on since it was 6 month old, and has had loads of sensors changed/cleaned, emu replaced, diagnostic checks for man and dog, all to no avail:confused: .
Car stutters almost stalls first thing in the morning for a few minuets, then is ok untill you hit a hill, then theres no power.

if they ask about the car, i will tell them.

  • Our invoices says that the PX car is/is not in roadworthy condition and we delete which bit we need, get the customer to agree and sign to say that the statements are correct, along with mileage and documents etc. So if they wanted to they could take you to the small claims court as i'm sure you would if the car you're bying turns out to be a pup................
