Pursued by Eon for bill for period after moving out of house

Hi
i was wondering whether anyone has any advice. I moved out of a house in London in 2005, submitted final electricity meter readings to Eon (then called Powergen), got a final bill and thought everything was sorted out. A couple of years later I received a threatening letter from Leeds Consultancy Services, a debt collection agency. This was regarding a bill for a period after the termination of my tenancy. Unfortunately I didn't have my original tenancy agreement and in any case, the contract was terminated early. After numerous phone calls I got my old letting agency to send letters to both Eon and LCS. I didn't hear anything for a while then again got threatening letters. On contacting Eon they had no record of receiving anything, despite my letting agancy saying they'd definitely faxed them. I once again got letters sent out. The letters ceased and I thought everything was sorted out.

A couple of weeks ago I received a letter, this time from Commercial Credit Services, demanding payment of the same debt. A few days ago I received another one from SC Gray Solicitors, threatening legal action within 14 days. I contacted Eon again and they said they needed a copy of the tenancy agreement. I again told them that I didn't have it, and that in any case I terminated the contract early. I said that they had requested a letter from the letting agent, which Ihad provided, and they waffled on about some inconsistency between the letter and a phone conversation with them.

I've written letters to both CCS and SC Gray, explaining the situation but I don't know what else to do.

Cheers
Mike

  • What about providing the tenancy agreement for your new house?? That might help show you had moved out for dates they are chasing you. Also look at your old council tax bills for both your new and old properties again these would back up the fact you had left the property.

    Good Luck
