    Sirbendy,

I think Ercol furniture is beautiful and it is really expensive to buy new...
  • We have the furniture project here aswell. What about trying the local Womens Aid drop in centre? They might be able to help if they are needing pieces for the refuge etc.

I could well believe it. If I look at the leaf that's been folded down for the last 15 years or so, it's a cherry colour...the well used bits are brown/almost black. The chairs need some new dowelling I think, and as I say the rocker is structurally sound, but the padding and material has disintegrated..heh.

My local furniture project (run by the council) is full of furniture like that, and they are happy to take stuff locally. I am ex-furniture industry and know that the stuff that they are sniffy about is anything that doesn't have current cig and flame test labelling as the may be seen as selling stuff that breaks the law. But hard furniture should be fine. Phone the council and ask them if they operate a second hand furniture project or know of any in the county. If your local council doesn't know, the county council should. Good luck!

I know that a few charity shops near me take furniture:

British Heart Foundation (they will also take electricals)
The Primrose Hospice (a local hospice shop)
St Richards Hospice (also another local hospice shop).

I actually buy a fair bit of furniture from either the Primrose Hospice or the Heart Foundation, if it is too tatty, I sand it down and varnish it.

Have you tried the Sally Army? They also take furniture. Re Freecycle - have another go, my local one is a yahoo group and the rules state that you must offer something before you put in a wanted request - every day people here are crying out for furniture. If your local one doesnt respond try one in an adjacent county.

SirBendy - you can buy vintage valves on ebay - google vintage valves and tons of suppliers come up. Give me valve radios any day of the week, they are better than transistors LOL.
