No one wants old furniture?

Hi all,

We have a few pieces of furniture to give away, advertised on freecycle a few times but no one was interested.

Tried the local charity shops but they don't want it either.

No idea what to do now, they are in good condition, probably not very modern but still perfectly useable. There's just not enough space for us and the furniture.

Can anyone suggest anything? In southeast if that helps

in yorkshire we have a charity called the furniture project they take anything and do it up and then pass it on to the needy. try ringing your local council they may have a similar scheme.

Do you not have a charity organisation that provides furniture to familys, i believe we have 1 where they provide things for people on low incomes or single parent families etc

How about the parts of the Council that rehome people after domestic violence or after moving out of care?

we had the same problem with a very large free standing unit.Asked the local centre where they take things to be sold cheap to people who are just starting out and they came and looked and said no they didnt want it.It was the wrong colour and they said no one would want it.
In the end we had to break it down and put it out for the local council to dispose of.Such a waste as there was nothing wrong with it.Hope you have better luck.

We just had someone post this morning asking for bedroom or living room furniture on the local Freecycle this morning. It's in South Oxfordshire; not sure how far that would be from you.

Closer to the coast than Oxfordshire. Thanks :)

Rung the YMCA and someone will come round to have a look. Tempted to take a mallet to it and tear it apart because we need the space now.

I found the same..the property we moved into had LOADS of baby equipment,..IKEA cot, baby bath stuf etc etc.

I phoned around, even "chairs and spares" that do the "supply cheap furniture to those who need it" bit..."sorry Sir, we don't do things like that."

Freecycle is a naughty word - I signed up to it to try and hand off an all-in-one printer/scanner/copier...do you think they've got back to me with any joining details? This was months ago now.

I've just been given a fold-out table, set of 4 matching chairs, a sideboard and a rocking chair that belonged to my nan, as we're clearing her house out...nobody else wanted it.. all Ercol stuff according to my mum.

Yes, it's old..at LEAST 55 years. It's age-darkened wood, bit distressed (as family used furniture will be after 55 years), but by god, it's SOLID, and built like a tank..I like furniture with character, and it'll be around for another 55 years with luck. Some of the chairs need a bit of glue, and the rocker is a total rebuild, but it's a good excuse to learn upholstering..:)

I'll never understand the mentality of people that turn down good furniture in the name of "modernity" and fashion. I also acquired a 1930/40ish Valve radio, wood cased jobbie with bakelit knobs. I think I can bring that back to life as well..heh..
