Egg Declining Transactions

It looks like they'll call you if there's a suspicious transaction before authorising it. In my case they don't have my mobile number and I'm obviously not at home when I'm shopping except if it's online. Though I haven't had any problems yet.
Perhaps they've tried to call you at the number on their records to authorise but you've been unavailable for the call?0 -
There was a system similar to that in place when i worked in the call centre. Basically a computer program flags up transactions outside of your normal spending pattern. it then attempt to contact you on the numbers held on the system to confirm with you they are genuine. it is an automated voice and basically i think you press one to confirm or two to decline (or something along those lines anyway). if you accept it wont matter, if you decline i think it puts you through to the call centre.
Was it a high value or high risk (jewellry, electronics, easily resaleable without losing too much of its value basically) item(s)? If you knw you are going to go online and buy a thousand pound watch say then you are best off ringing them before hand and asking them to place an overide on the sytem. pease note however, this overide turns off ALL the security procedures on the account and should only be done on the understanding that you are entirely liable for any use that happens whilst it is on (say if you had it on, someone stole the card and then bought a car, you are liable). Thats what the sitution was about 18 months ago, i doubt they have stopped using FDI (the credit card system they used) but they may have taken away the ability to apply the overides.
Hope this helps.
BTW, if it was just a normal transaction then i guess you just got lucky and it picked you out anyway.
Sorry for the long post0
