Hi all,
I'm in the throws of 'doing up' my house and a place that keeps getting recommended to me to get tools, flooring, kitchens etc is Stax. Whats the best way to get a membership card from them? Their website states that you need to be in a trade and have 2 or 3 invoices of a similar product that they sell, a letterhead or business card and a utility bill from your home/business address.
I do a bit of plastering part time with a freind but its nothing like a full time business and so I don't really have the relevent paperwork, is it possible to apply for a card through you regular (day job) place of work? What is other peoples experiences of Stax and is it as good as I have heard?
Cheers
Mike

stax is a good place to go although not cheap for everthing.I dont remember them being that strict when I joined.I took a couple of screwfix reciepts and a b and q one.Plus the other stuff you mentioned. If it is just the letterhead you are stuck on ,knock one up on the pc,They dont do any further checks.
watch out when you are in there as you can get carried away.It is also a good idea to leave any female family members in the car as they will help you spend a fortune on stuff you dont need.0 -
Think we are talking about Stax @ Worsley(Wardly Industrial Estate)
Just buy a few bits and bods from any trade merchant Travis Perkins/Jewsons etc and ask to the reciepts in the name of Fred Bloggs Builders etc, then just knock yourself up a bill head on your pc.0 -
i'm a member and visit the oldbury one. You can bluff your way in with the requested joining paperwork, a few trade bills etc. Just act confident at the door. This must be one of the cheapest trade places i've been into and it is definitely more strict than makro, selco, howdens, platorm etc. I liken it to a mega traditional hardware store/warhouse. One thing to remember here though is that there a 2 types of trade. One is tradesman and the other is retailer. If you prove your retail you will get 20% off most market prices. This isn't advertised anywhere. They will ensure that you meet min spend levels to keep your retail status. there's a £50 min spend at mine so i usually go every couple of months.Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!0 -
Cheers again guys, I have already 'designed' a letterhead prior to posting but was just a bit stuck on how to go about the 2/3 invoice part but thats been answered in the above posts now.
An electrician who I've just done a plastering job for bought an all singing and dancing shower cubicle from them thats about £2500 in B&Q etc; he got it for £700!!
I had heard of the minimum spend, is that just if you have the retail membership or either of them regardless? Thanks again.0 -
Is it still easy to bluff your way into Stax as I might try the Oldbury one. If so what do I need. Thanks0

the stax at oldbury is amazing, my FIL is a member. We kitted out our house a few years ago with electricals very cheaply. They're also good for paint.0
