USwitch suggesting current supplier could save me money???

Hi Folks,

Ive just been on to USwitch to have a look at saving a bit of money on my Gas and elec., but after putting in my current supplier for G&E as nPower, and how much I pay by fixed monthly DD, it gave me results to say that nPower could save me over £200 on my combined bill. They were also the top result.

Maybe Im missing something, but is it possible to change via USwitch to the company Im already with, and save money?

I appreciate this may be a very silly question, but am just a little confused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Most energy suppliers have quite a few tariffs. It could be that you are on npowers standard tariff and by switching to one of their online tariffs (currently webonline 14 and sign online 14) you could easily make that saving as standard tariffs are normally the most expensive.
You need not switch via uswitch, make a note of the cheaper tariff and just ring npower and they should switch you immediately.
you cannot get cashback via a switching site if switching with the same company.

Just noticed you put in how much you pay by DD. You get more accurate results if you put in your annual usage in KWh. You may find the saving is not as big if you do it that way.
  • npower's leccy prices are normally astronomical (certainly on standard tariff). Sometimes it's actually cheaper to split your gas and electric and go with separate companies. If you know your annual leccy consumption, put that in uswitch in isolation and see just hwo much more you are paying than you should be. Granted my leccy usage is high (6000 kwh per year) but on that usage in my region (Yorkshire) I would be paying £288 per year more than I needed to.

    Thanks NotBG

I just phoned nPower as I also noticed that my gas bill had £100 credit on it, and my elec. had £100 debit, so asked them to swap the balance across from one to pay the other. Better for it to be paying my bills than earning them interest I thought!!!

I also got them to change to the V14 tariff which is what uSwitch suggested. I did a second search on my annual KWh usage aswell, and it came out with a slightly lower saving as you said (£140 saving opposed to £218), and nPower as second result. The difference between 1st (EDF) and nPower was only £5 a year saving though, so for the sake of a fiver stayed where I was.

Thanks for the advice though. Much appreciated.

    Hi 1Carminestocky,

Must have sent my reply as you were posting yours.

Ive just done a search on elec. alone and nPower has come up again as 2nd choice with EDF first. Quite a small difference again though. Only £8 a year difference. I dont know if Im a low, medium or high user, but my annual elec KWh I worked out as around 3200. I guess that should put me around a medium usage comparing it with your high 6000, which concerns me slightly as I live alone and never have more than one light or 2 or 3 appliances going at the same time.... How would someone be a low user!!!! lol.

Thanks for suggesting checking out leccy on its own though.

Was the £100 your annual bonus for paying dual fuel by DD. It is normally credited to your electricity account, perhaps they had done that and then transferred it over to your gas account to try to balance the 2 accounts?
Just realised I may have misunderstood your post, did you mean you were £100 in credit on one and £100 in debit on the other.
