she went to the vet's 2 weeks ago, and blood tests where done .. she's perfectly healthy except for the fact that she's currently sitting at about half the body weight expected for a cat her size.

She lost weight after an accident she suffered about 10 years ago my "old" vet kept telling be she was fine   however i recently moved vets after i wasn't happy with the treatment the old vet gave my dog back in November.

She saw the new vet for the first time last week after she started losing even more weight, yowling all the time and started spraying all over the place.

The new vet recomended a full blood panel, dispite the old vets records of her being fine. The panel came back and it said she was fine so he gave her some steroids to help her gain weight.

However !!!! He still wasn't convinced that there was nothing wrong, so he sent for her records including all the X-rays she had done after the accident. He rang me up last Friday to say he's recieved the x-rays and he thought he knew what the problem was. Looking at the x-rays her thinks the old vet might have wired up her mouth wrong, he wants to see her and sedate her on tues to take a look.

And although it's all still "Hyper-thetical" at this point the new vet suspects the reason why she lost so much weight after the accident is becaue she can't actually CHEW food because he suspects her jaw doesn't close fully... so i've spent 10 years of feeding her "dry" catfood she's actually having to swallow whole because she's unable to chew it.

The vet says would have been uncomfortable making food unappealing... the longer it went on the less interested in food she got. To the point that now food holds no interest to her whatsoever, she eats JUST enough to survive.

Anyway he suggested that untill we take a closer look on tuesday that i try and feed her anything she will eat, and mush it up as best i can to see if that helps and thus far it's working. :T

I have i've tried her with tinned cat meat, but i think im getting over years and years worth of mental block and she won't eat it.... The only thing im having any sort of luck with is fresh fish, mushed up into tiny tiny bits, warmed up in the microwave so its smelly and even then she's still not eating even half as much as a normal cat (1/2 tin of macrel on a good day!!! ) but its better than nothing.

The way i figure it if i'd been struggling to eat for 10 years, and i'd learned to assossiate eating with discomfort i might be relucatant to eat too... anyhooo slowly slowly ... Right now i'm happy to feed her whatever she'll eat, ill work on getting her back onto cat food (tinned obviously) when she's at a more stable weight.

Ohhhhhhhh now I remember! Wow it's great the new Vet has found what he thinks the problem might be & that she's now with the new Vet. At least she's eating, i'd think if it'd been my Cat i'd be so happy i'd give her anything too! I guess the more variety the better but whatever she'll take, maybe vary the fish & do eggs like you said etc. I hope it goes well on Tuesday, my Dogs in the Vets Tuesday & I should get a date for her double op worked out. Hope it goes ok let us know x
