£16k is now for both a single person or a couple. It used to be different, but has been changed at some point (don't know when).
You can claim contributions based JSA for 26 weeks regardless of your capital -- as long as you've paid the appropriate NI in the two years they're looking at when you make your claim -- but not means tested JSA if you have over £16k in capital. Contributions based JSA is only payable for 26 weeks, so you'd have to apply for means tested after that. (Sorry if my previous post was unclear).Cheryl0 -
