New Car
I am looking to get a new car so need a bit of advice.
The car i am looking for is new Yaris TR 09 plate. The price in the garage with the paint i want is £10,400.
They say they will give me £2800 for my car which is a 04 Yaris, 5 door with 28,000 on the clock but a dent and a scratch. They have offered me a few deals which i think are rubbish.
Do you think it is feasible to ask them to knock the car down to £9,000 and then as them to pay £3,000 for my car (which was originally bought from them). Then the balance on the car is £6,000. They are currently doing finance deals at 5.9% and on some cars 0% but apparantly cant do it on a yaris.
As i have never bought a brand new car before i was just wondering if people thought i could knock them down lower because some people are suggesting i can, or any tips?

Forget what yours is worth and what a new one costs, You are negotiating a cost to change and you want this to be £6,000. Let the salesman know this early on and be prepared to walk if they won't deal.
To get a more accurate cost to change find what cars like yours are advertised for and see what a broker will do the Yaris for.
A dentmaster could probably get rid of your car's dents and scratches for £100 - a dealer will use it to drop the trade in price even though for him to get it fixed will be peanuts. Well worth getting yours sorted and have a full valet before visiting the garage.
Be careful with Toyota quotes too - our local dealer added GAP insurance and superguard polish automatically which added about £700 to the price of the car.0 -
I would keep the one you have, it will last for years.;)0

Not trying to put your off,but i wont buy brand new cos of depreciation. Possibly go 08 or 07 reg.
For eaxmaple bought a Frod Mondeo mid last year. It was 07 reg and i paid 6.5k for it after series of hard haggling, Car cost nearly 12k brand new the previous year. Still in immaculate condition etc0 -
Tell the salesman your total budget of £6000 after trade in and hear what he has to say. If he come back with a higher figure then take some time to think about it (a few days) before you let them know your decision.
Your current car is absolutely fine and only reason I think an upgrade is wanted because you want to have a new car and better options in the new car than you current ie air con, keyless entry/start. I cannot see it as repair bills as the yaris is very reliable.0 -

Hi
Thanks for all the replies!
The car I was originally looking at was a 58 plate T3 5 door 1 litre. However after Toyota had a massive sale they sold out of these apparently! The dealer told me that he has got a 58 plate TR coming in, 5 door 1.3 but this will be on sale for £8,999. It has done 4k.
However a new 09 plate TR 5 door 1 liter is 10,400. Also apparently the road tax for the new one is only £35? I also heard that you have more chance of haggling on a new one than a pre-owned one?
What I am ultimately looking for is a 5 door, black 1 litre yaris with aircon and a cd player. Either a 58 or 09 plate.
I know my Yaris will last forever and I have had no mechanical problems with it, it is the best car I have had, but I really want a new one, whether that be brand new or pre owned almost new. I feel kind of Jinxed in my car I know this sounds stupid but the day after I got it someone put a massive scratch down it, then someone hit it with a trolley in a car park, then a lady reversed into it, then a car pulled out on me, then after it was fixed someone hit the front wing, that’s where the dent is from. As well as this I came out to find another scratch on it the other day.
After a service and mot I had, Toyota didn’t check my brakes properly and when I had a flat tyre the rac man said my brakes were dangerous and that was this winter when it was icy, he told me to take it back to Toyota and complain. When I did they could not do enough for me, gave me new brakes, new tyres, new windscreen wipers and a loyalty car that gets me 12% off parts because it was all there fault. I know this sounds silly but I just feel a bit jinxed!
But I still want a yaris because it gives me no mechanical problems and the petrol is so cheap.
Also where would I find a dent master?2009 Comping - 2x Superbowl Superbash tickets, body butter, easter hamper!:j0 -

Thanks for the link. Does this tell me the price i could ask them to reduce to?2009 Comping - 2x Superbowl Superbash tickets, body butter, easter hamper!:j0 -

I doubt your local dealer will get to that price and he also has the added aggravation (and uncertainty) of getting rid of your trade in. He will not be taking too many risks with the trade in just now.
Can you sell it privately? Probably tricky just now but that will mean you can deal anywhere so worth thinking about and will put you in a really strong position to haggle on the new one.
