Nearly a £3000 Gas and Elec Bil

Hi All

Quick question.

I live in a 3 bed townhouse, 2 bathrooms, Kitchen , Living room and Garage.
Property is 4 years old from new with all engery saving apliances.
2 adults and 2 children live at the property and 1 parrot.
All services are switched off which not being used and EVERYTHING is switch off at nighttime other than my childs nightlight, My heating is only ever on 20 and yet we have been paying this MONSTER bill for over 2 years now at a price of £233 a month thats £2796 a year for gas and electric.

Can someone let me know if that sounds a tad too high for a 3 bed new build(ish) semi?

Gas and Elec supplied by rip off merchants E.ON

Thanks All
Fiona

You didn't specify if you had been giving readings or if these are estimates.
Which supply is producing this huge bill? Gas or Elec? There must be a breakdown on your bill.
You must have some other things on in the night time. Fridge? Just pointing out that there are other things on, probably...

I'll assume that a town house means you are living above/below/next to others? Like a flat?
Are you positive you aren't paying for other's usage?
  • These are from meter readings we post onto our online account.

    It is unreal!

The obvious question is are you being charged for an Imperial gas meter instead of Metric?

A 4 year old house will have a metric gas meter.

So look at any gas bill and the number of gas units. This should convert to approx 11 kWh for each gas unit.

e.g. 500 gas units will be approx 5,500kWh.

Did you have too-low payments initially? With a different supplier our pymnts were initially pitched at £40 per month for gas/elec, but we work from home, plus mum in law lived with us for a bit and did lots of cooking. So our usage changed but I didn't think to contact them. This went on for a while and the DD amount was changed to £170 a month to get us up straight, but then they kept taking that amount until we spoke to them and got it reduced.

    Fiona,

There is no point in starting 2 threads with the identical question.

You would be better deleting the other thread.

As Cardew said, check your meter and your bill for how they are calculating your usage:

  • How many hours a day do you have your heating on?

Did you ask your supplier about the size of your bills?
