Redundancy Notice

Hi, i've been working for my employer since April 08. They say they only have to give me 1 week notice as i am being made redundant tomorrow - can i request they pay me for that week and me not work since they say it's because there's no work for me?

They've laid people off before and they were paid a week without working that week so i want the same but i'm not sure what the rules are.

Thanks.

Depends on their company policy, I'm afraid so you will just have to wait and see.

What is in your contract, have you checked to see if it is indeed a week and not a month.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

They've never given me a written contract, although my years contract was started around August 08 after various trial/probation periods.

I'm not even sure it exists....

There will be one even if it unwritten. Did you get a letter of appointment.
If you work on the shop floor its usually a week, office workers are usually a month's notice. (but not necessarily)

  • they are right, sadly you are only entitled to one week
