Want to buy stock/share - advice required

Hi there,

2 weeks ago I was prepared to put £1000 onto barclays and didn't know the best way of doing it, after some online reading I got a better understanding but didn't know where to go.

After hearing the news yesterday I felt gutted that I hadn't been more proactive.

I was now thinking of investing into oil since a barrel is so cheap right now and inevitably will go up at some point, companies like Shell who are down at the moment looks like a good opportunity to get in cheap and hold for some a period of time.

Not sure of the amount I should put, the charges I will incurr or who I should put my money into?

Could some one point me in the right direction to do this?

Id recommend selftrade. They are very easy to use. All the information is very clear and easy to understand. They don't charge an inactivity fee and they dont have any min orders that you have to place every year. For the amount you are looking to invest, you should open a dealing account with them. No point going for an ISA account as you will be unlikely to pay any tax on the amount your looking to invest.
They also only charge £12.50 per trade.

just been looking at digital look ltd they seem pretty good with market data and allow you to trade online.

Any one have any experience with them?>
