I've missed all of this because I've been on holiday in the States (ouch). Thankfully got my big purchases out of the way before the pound slid yet further.

I don't know what to make of the Jim Rogers issue. I saw him speak at the IEA about 5 years ago on the Adventure Capitalist tour and enjoyed both that and Investment Biker. Back then he was in his having a downer on Russia stage and telling everyone to invest in commodities. Some of this was good advice, some wasn't but the average person on the street - as Gen (I think) says - won't have heard of him before and don't realise that he can be the investment community's equivalent of a 'shock jock'.

For me the point is that this is a person of VERY low moral and ethical standards who has the power to cause enough uncertainty and worry that a run on Sterling (or any other currency he is looking to make money out of in the near future;) ) that it impacts on the lives of the decent and hardworking people of a Country and damages them.

To my mind it is an example of exactly what is wrong with a market and "imaginary money" led society because for a lot of small businesses in this Country that have worked hard for 30 years or more to build something for themselves and their families, the antics of some ammoral creature like this can destroy the lot in a matter of weeks;) Should anyone be allowed to wield that kind of power just because of a skill in what is (after all) only a kind of educated gambling with the inherent addiction side thereof.

I have no objection to anyone gambling if their gamble will not affect me or the many millions of others who do not gamble, just work hard and try to be prudent: but the financial World in all its disgusting and corrupt glory have no loyalty to any Country, any people, any currency or anything other than the next "bet" and I personally would not trust any one of them to leave my kids pocket money on the table if they thought they could make something for themselves from it:rolleyes:

Thoroughly enjoyed watching the Hedge Managers being questioned and squirming away this morning on the TV! Perhaps the general public who think these people are "financial wizards" should stop and think where there wizardry has once again brought us and how little conscience the majority appeared to have at the mess they have made of it (yet again:rolleyes: ).

Seriously, if anyone else in a working environment repeatedly caused the crashes this lot do, they would be out of a job and no golden handshakes at all. Isn't it about time we kept them on choke chains and applied a little common sense and good housekeeping to their excesses?

I too have seen him in action. He can be quite amusing and certainly knows how to manipulate a market in a way that will make money for himself. I still find him and Storos absolutely detestable and unworthy of the title "people".

You know it then. Thinks a Holden is an Australian car despite it being made by GM.

It's a bit of a joke between Mrs Generali and I. We visited here one time and drove a bit inland and up and down the east coast. Once you get away from the cities the number of radio stations become severely restricted so you can find you spend a day listening to "We Built This City* FM"
