i ordered some goods on-line with my debit card about a month n a half back.
i received a mail saying that one of the items was out of stock and thought no more of it....
then the other day they took the cost of the out of stock item out of my bank account, i received the item the next day (which i no longer wanted as had bought elsewhere)
are they allowed to do this without notifying me first?

i think so unless you specifcally cancelled it.0

I agree. You said 'you thought nothing more of it' ... did you actually cancel it. They were porbably just telling you, as they are obliged to, that they may not meet the aniticipated delivery deadline. They probably only took the money roughly when it was despatched.

Cant see a problem with that if you didnt cancel, better than them taking the money when you placed the order and then having to wait weeks for delivery whilst they're earning interest on your cash...0

you have always the right to return the good (I think), there is a distance selling thingyLife should not be taken seriously, as no one would get out alive0

If they said the item was out-of-stock, it is surely quite reasonable to buy elsewhere.
And why would you bother telling them to cancel it, if they've said you're not getting it anyway?
I'd send it back & contact them re. the postage costs. I reckon any reasonable company would accept this & reemburse cost... it might just take a letter to their MD.0 -
