Tumble Dryer playing up - any ideas?

I have one of those tumble dryer that you have to empty the water out of. It used to dry things really fast but it has been on 3 hrs plus now and the washing is still slightly damp. What things can I check myself? I have just realised I have not cleaned the filter in the door for ages - and also I sometimes have forgotten to empty the water out between drys and it has sometimes leaked out. I don't know if these things could have caused it to break. It is a few years old but I haven't really got the money to buy a new one because this week my central heating has broken and my oven is broke and now this :-( help

The filter should be cleaned regularly (or even after each load), if it is blocked then the air cannot circulate and dry the clothes and can cause the machine to overheat.
Cleaning the filter should improve the drying time. If there is no heat then a thermal fuse could have blown and you would need to get it repaired.0 -
Well I haven't cleaned the filter for at least 4 months - oh dear. In fact I was given the tumble dryer and I only realised it had a filter that could be cleaned when I was looking on ebay at tumble dryers and I saw a picture of a tumble dryer just like mine with the filter pulled out. I am going to clean it and time the drying. hopefully it works thanks so much.0

Put hand on the back, is it getting hot? if not, maybe thermal trip has gone, or heater element is not working.0
