i need a bank account with debit card
no over draughts or anything special is needed, no cheque book etc - just a debit card
but
although there will be regular payments going in monthly of £2,000 + from salary, it's self employed/no pay check, can't/won't proove employed to the bank.
so basically an account that lets me spend my own money, that i've already deposited there, on a debit card...opened without proof of employment
does it exist?

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

A Barclays cash account, Halifax Easycash, Lloyds cash account. These account are basic banking accounts and they issue debit cards that you can't go overdrawn with.
I think as long as you have ID for example passport you should be okay.0 -
As well as the previous replies, RBS/Natwest, Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank and Co-operative Bank also offers debit cards with their basic bank accounts.0

will these accounts allow you to open without proof of income?
everyone i've asked says it's just not possible to find such an accountDon’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.

Proof of income? I was never asked for proof of my income.
When i opened my Barclays cash account i filled in the application form and sent it back with a copy of my passport which had been verified by branch staff that was that.0 -

Don't know. You could ask the branch. If you don't want to ask, just go in and hope for the best that you won't need to provide proof. If they ask for proof, just say to them about the documents you need to provide.
I'm sure if you are self employed, you will have some proof of income from accountants, HM Revenue, etc... :huh:Proof of income? I was never asked for proof of my income.

Some banks do ask you for proof of income, while some don't. They just believe you that you will have income coming in each month, no matter where it's from (e.g. job, benefits, etc...). Not sure if money from parents count as income though, when a person is unemployed...0 -
Even for a full account, you don't necessarily need proof of income. I didn't give any sort of proof when I opened a Halifax High Interest account. That may only be required if you want to actually apply for an overdraft.0

assuming none of the account listed need proof of income, some seem to either not offer any debit card, or only offer an electron card (utterly usless imho)
does anyone know of an account that does a 'normal' switch card, on a bank account that doesn't need proof of income to open it?Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.

Yorkshire/Clydesdale Bank offer a Switch card. It's known as Maestro now. Barclays and LTSB offer VISA. HBOS offers Electron. RBS/Natwest offer Solo.
Not sure which banks don't ask for proof of income. Even though, they ask you, I'm sure you have some proof of being self employe and all that.0 -
All accounts I think. I have a current account at Yorkshire Bank I have a Maestro debit card and they never asked me for proof of income just proof of ID.
As i mentioned before i never got asked for proof of income at Barclays just how much i earn of my application.
If you are self-employed they may ask to show you are self employed.
Have you made an application to any bank?0
