Temp car insurance

Can anyone advise me of a cheap way to insure our car for just 7-10 days?
Our annual insurance runs out at midnight on Thursday but we are due to sell the car some time next week so am loathe to take out a renewal policy for the sake of a few days. ave spoken to our current insurers, explained the situation, and the best they could offer is one months renewal policy (£28) plus a cancellation fee (£35.00). REALLY don't want to have to pay over £60 for a weeks insurance on a car worth about £800!
Leaving car off road for that few days is not an option as we currently have a claim in(!) as a nice lorry managed to lose a couple of the loose stones it was carrying as a load and chip the windscreen, just before we were due to sell! DH too busy ducking as he thought it was going to come in at him to get the licence number so we will just have to grin and bare it. Due to be fixed on Saturday but will be covered as claim was submitted whilst still insured.
Anyway, sorry to rabbit on. Any tips would be gratefully received. Have only managed to get through to AA so far tonight and, although they do short term insurance, they will not consider a vehicle worth less than £1500.
Thanks

Put 'temporary car insurance' into google and several companies come up, I'd get a few quotes from them.0

one of which is tempcover (actually forget them they only cover over £1500, and in fact have to be careful cause like you found with AA alot use tempcover in a different name) I think this one will cover you http://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk/, but more importantly, might be surprise someone else might of saw what happen and reported it and had the registration number. For example other driver, CCTV, etc.. have you contacted the police about it?0

Afraid not, Dan - 1 car family0 -

How much should an insurance company charge to cover a vehicle for 10 days? I have absolutely no idea. Until such a time when more and more people want temporary insurance cover, the price of temporary insurance cover is likely to remain "high".
I would find out the most competitive insurers for the replacement car (if you're getting one and you know what it is) and incept a policy for the current vehicle. If you're not getting a new car just bite the bullet and pay what has to be paid.

when I called to insure on a temporary basis I was surprise it was cheaper to have me on it instead of my dad. The person on the line explain unlike "annual" policy where older you are, the cheaper it is, with temp it work the other way. Closer you are to the 25 part, the better.
Also they use the weight of the van but I guess for a car CC, higher it is, more the premium. They do not take NCD into account nor accidents (as long as you do not have more than 1 / 2.) And lastly once it go over 4 days each extra day does not really add much to the premium. ie the first 4 days premiums are loaded to cover the costs on the admin side I would say.0
