i know how you feel mate am in the same boat i have been trying to apply for jobs (nothing fancy - any old admin job) since oct and 1in10 write back to say they arenot inviting you to interview, i have a huge folder full of app's i have done now and am really fed up of it. iwas so excited to get through to the selection tests with DWP but am now hearing that they put you on a waiting list before giving you a job and that can take forever!
i fill in my job log book for jsa and take it there every 2 weeks when i sign on they have never asked me to show them any apps i have done thanks god couldnt bear to drag that huge folder with me every time! they do ask at the 13 week review stage though :rolleyes:0 -

I am really getting frustrated now  I have been out of work for 2 months now.
I understand this is a bad time to be job searching but I'm getting so fed up. I'm really skint and in debt so I have to get something, I have to keep going and searching but sometimes I feel like it's worthless. I'm applying for at least 2 jobs every day and have done this for the last 3 weeks. This might not sound a lot but there is nothing really around at the moment. Not a single company, employer or person has responded to my applications and this is what is really getting to me!! I'm trying so hard, taking a long time to make sure my application form is the best it can be or my cv is up to scratch, I put a lot of effort into doing this and I don't even get a response.
I am on JSA as off 2 weeks ago. I understand at some point they will ask for evidence of my job searches, not only my diary but further proof ie rejection letters, emails I've sent to employers etc etc. Now I'm maybe looking to far into the future but how am I meant to show what I'm doing when I'm not getting responses from employers? For all the JC know I could be telling them a pack of lies, telling them I've applied for stuff when I have not.
Are you fed up too? What can I do to get really motivated again?
The jobcentre will not penalise you just because you haven't had replies. I can only advise you to keep on plugging away at it.Fokking Fokk!0 -
If its any help have you tried contacting the companies by phone to see how your application is progressing? If they say sorry you have not been accepted ask for feedback.
For JCP create a log detailing date, company, vacancy, advertised, notes. In the notes section write info about when you chased, what was said, if you received a letter etc. This is also helpful as you can use it as evidence.
Hope this helps.0 -

If you keep copies of your job applications, as you should do anyway, you can offer these as proof to the Jobcentre. Are you sending out your CV speculatively as well as applying for specific vacancies?0 -
Even in the good times it can be very difficult. Job centre staff are not stupid they know many people are looking for work in their area and will treat the dictats from above with due consideration. Of course that is no consolation when you have no job. I've been there in the past and it is not a nice place to be and safety in numbers is no real help. I dread that it could happen to me again.
Keep on plugging away and try and remain positive.

Its a pain in the butt when no one gives you any recognition, does make it feel totally pointless but it's just a case of ploughing on. If you ask for recognition of your applicaiton in the letter / email then they usually do if they're nice enough, even if you enclose an SAE, but some will not bother maybe due to the sheer amount of applications they get (or laziness, make up your own mind lol).
What about agency work, have you signed up with any ones around your area? Signing up to job sites is what i found very useful too. When I was signing on, the job centre told me not to bother with an agency as I wouldnt find anything. But they were NO help to me aside from telling me "you're over qualified for most of the jobs here", (even though it didnt matter at the time i just wanted any job!), so I applied for a job through one of the main job sites like Fish4 or one of them (i forget which) and 4 days later an agency called me, the following monday I started my new job!
Keep trying you'll get there in the end. I have literally dozens of application forms and only a few letters from companies, just persevere and it'll pay off.:D
JemDebt which IS NOW GONE before 31.12.2011: CC - GONE!!! :j Loan: GONE!! :j

Well just think if you stop applying there is 0% chance of getting a job. If you keep trying the chances may be small but they are still more than zero0 -
I am a recruiter. My OH is recently unemployed and just no sniff of anything at present, so I can see just how tough things are at present.
It may be a good idea in principle to ask for feedback on your applications, but I would say you can only seriously expect an employer to be able to give something meaningful after interview.
For example, we advertised a receptionist post the other day and got 175 applications, twice as many as the same time last year. Shortlisting is a nightmare as almost everyone meets the minimum criteria, many way over qualified. So feedback in this sort of situation is worthless.
It is very disheartening to get reject after reject. I hate to do it but we now have to tell people in advance that they won't hear unless we invite them for interview - otherwise we would simply get nothing else done.
The important thing as a employment candidate is to target those jobs where you are most likely to get an interview - the right qualifications and/or previous experience, plus a stand out CV - eg by showing that you are working on your qualifications or experience while unemployed, perhaps through voluntary work. And when you get a chance at interview, work on your technique, your enthusiasm, your answers - preparation is everything.
Applying for jobs where you don't meet the requirements may tick the JSA box but is fruitless and soul-destroying. The important thing is to keep going - MSE is great for sharing ideas but most of all knowing you are not alone."Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm" (Sir Winston Churchill)0 -
