Buyer paid by Paypal

In early January I sold a book on a ebay auction which was bought by a person in London for £44 inc postage. This was subsequently paid for next day by paypl and the book dispatched by RM 1st class. I subsequently recd positive feedback from a user who had decided to keep his feedback comments private. On the 29th January 2006 Paypal reversed the £44 charged and emailed me to advise me they were investigating a possible fraudulent transaction. Am I right in assuming my £44 is lost as I didnt use Paypal tracking instead posting the book by RM 1st class mainly due to its heavy weight. Any guidance / advice as to what is going on would be much appreciated and how best to proceed.

Unless you have seller protection and you're eligible for it with that buyer then if PayPal decide it's fraudulent then you will lose your money unfortunately, whether it was tracked or not.

I agree. It sounds like you will have lost the money. Your only hope is to probably email paypal and complain though I dont think that that will do any good!Weight Loss - 102lb0

On the positive side you know where they live, or at least where they might be contacted? :cool:GKennedy wrote:In early January I sold a book on a ebay auction which was bought by a person in London for £44 inc postage. I'm up for 'sending the boys round' but then I know some fairly scary boys
Maybe as others have suggested paypal can help you out (don't you need a credit card for that? can't you approach their credit card company? sorry not very au fait with Paypal as they charge too much for my liking)...
Sorry I can't help you out more.just in case you need to know:

Proof of delivery only prevents a chargeback for item not delivered. Fraudulent use is a different problem entirely, and the one and only thing I have serious concerns with on paypal. The claim for fraudulent use can be made up to 6 months after the trasaction, and I can't see any clear way of protecting the seller.
