Help....!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all at moneysavers...
Im probably in the wrong forum but im in need of help and this seemed like a good place to start..my council (blackpool) have informed me that a tree on my property has damaged the pavement outside my garden wall with its roots, they are going to dig the pavement up and remove the roots and relay the pavement, in doing this they say the tree will probably die as a result and they want to take it down, it is a large tree about 40ft tall, they say i will have to pay for all this work, which i thin will be considerable if im paying for the pavement as well, i cant afford this at all as im allready in debt and, they say they can go ahead with the work even without my permission and they will add the payment onto my house which means i cant sell my house untill this has been payed, and this will incrue interest untill it is payed...!!
Can anyone please help me

Many thanks Warren

Can anyone give me some advise please ?

I don't think they can make you pay for the relay of the pavement as it is their responsibility not theirs nor are you negligent. It may be possible that the removal of the tree could be covered under your insurance policy you would have to ask your insurance company. I would get someone local to do a quote just to remove the tree also speak to citizens advice if the council insist you pay for all the work to be carried out and get a written report that states your tree is responsible for the damage.

The removal of the tree is not covered under the policy. The OP should refer any claim received from the council to his household insurers and let them deal with it (under the personal liability section).

I did reply on the other thread.

Why has he posted the same thread numerous times, mods culd we have the other threads about tree merged into 1,
  • Sorry yes i did post it somewhere else...im a bit new to this site and wasnt sure where was the best place to post..
Thanks for the replies, i will try citizens advice bureau as soon as i get through on the phone, been trying for 3 days!!!!
I will also contact my insurance about the liability (public ?) claim..
All i know is the man from the council was adamant, they can do the work, i.e take the tree down without my permission and all the costs, pavement, tree are down to me...they are doing a survey to see what needs to be done and then are billing me !!
But they can bill all they want as i dont have the money ??
